The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf has unveiled future plans for cricketers and chief selectors after the team’s poor performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, ARY News reported on Sunday.
While talking to the ARY News, Zaka Ashraf urged for taking best decisions to ‘clean the dirt off the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’.
To a question, he replied that the prime minister has the power to retain him as the PCB chief or not. However, he added that he maintained the reputation of the Pakistani team earlier and can still do so.
“I don’t want to take the morale of the team management and coaches down. I wish the best for anyone including Najam Sethi if appointed as the PCB chairmanship by the prime minister.”
“However, the appointment and ouster should be made in an honourable way, otherwise, it would damage the reputation of the board. We should work for the betterment of the cricket by setting aside our differences.”
Ashraf gave details about his meeting with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah, Ashraf said that the BBCI secretary’s attitude was respectful towards him.
The PCB chief said that Jay Shah had also telephoned him a few days ago and recalled the meeting along with other chairmen of the cricket boards.
Asrah claimed that they would soon restore Pakistan and India cricket ties. Regarding the visa issue, the PCB chief said, “We had requested the Indian authorities to issue visas to the Pakistani fans and journalists, however, we cannot forcefully take visas from anyone except for making request.”
The PCB chairman hinted at questioning the business agreements signed by the cricketers and the chief selectors after surfacing of media reports about influences of the management company in the cricket team.
Zaka Ashraf said that the cricket board would devise legislation regarding the business agreements of the cricketers and the chief selectors. “Such business agreements could have become a reason for a clash in the team’s interests. The chief selectors will be questioned and legislation will be devised.”
He detailed that regulations will also be devised for the players’ agents. “There would a monopoly if a single agent has contracts of several players. Business agreements and agents are serious issues and the board would consider these issues on a serious note.”
Commenting on the poor performance in the ICC World Cup 2023, Zaka Ashraf said that people should support the Pakistani team instead of launching criticism on TV channels and social media that would take down the morale of the players.
“Several players had complained about severe criticism on television channels. The mistakes of the cricket teams must be discussed after the conclusion of the world cup.”
To a question, the PCB chief clarified that he does not even allow his children to sit in the official vehicle provided to him by the PCB. He added that his family went to India at their own expense.
The PCB chief was also questioned about Rashid Latif’s claims about not receiving telephone calls from Pakistani skipper Babar Azam.
Zaka Ashraf rejected Rashid Latif’s claims. “I think, it is also part of a game and I feel pity about his claims. I constituted a technical committee under the supervision of Misbah-ul-Haq and several former cricketers were invited there including Rashid Latif and Mohammad Hafeez.”
He continued, “Rashid Latif had also criticised the technical committee when it sought his recommendations. Instead of giving his advice, Rashid launched criticism on the committee and felt proud to walk out of the meeting. I think, it is inappropriate. When you are there in Pakistan, then you have to think like a Pakistani.”
Regarding Babar Azam’s alleged telephone call, Zaka Ashraf rejected Latif’s claims and said, “He has never telephoned me. A skipper cannot contact the PCB chairman as he can only contact the director international or COO of the PCB.”
Talking to the ARY News, Ashraf also opposed allowing cricketers to join different leagues before the World Cups.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Central General Secretary Nayyar Hussain Bokhari said Sunday that his political party opposed an extension in the caretaker government’s tenure, ARY News reported.
While talking to the ARY News programme ‘Sawal Yeh Hai’, Nayyar Bokhari said that the PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC) made all decisions. “The no-confidence motion was tabled due to PPP. We decided to join the coalition government only to complete the tenure of the assemblies.”
“There is no such agreement to retain an alliance after the dissolution of the government. PPP believes in the power of votes. We thought that elections would be held in nine months after the assemblies’ dissolution on August 9.”
Bokhari said that PPP leaders expressed reservations after witnessing the non-implementation of the decision. He added that PPP leaders believed that ‘the match is fixed and a political party is being given special treatment.”
The PPP criticised the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for not conducting the general polls despite the Supreme Court’s (SC) directives.
Regarding Khursheed Shah’s statement, Bokhari termed it ‘a personal opinion’ but not the PPP’s stance. A few days ago, Shah sought ‘pardon from the nation as the PPP made a mistake by joining the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government.”
Former Sindh chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah urged ECP to immediately announce the election date as it is the only solution to the country’s problems.
He said that ECP should not delay the announcement of the election date and the election schedule must be issued immediately. Shah said caretaker governments are given power for two or three months to hold fair and free elections. Prolonging the tenure of caretakers will create ‘problems’, he added.
The PPP leader said caretakers cannot make such decisions that cannot be continued by the upcoming elected government.

“Like Israel in occupied Palestine, India’s massive occupation Army of 900,000 troops has sought to brutally suppress the freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people and to impose what its extremist leaders ominously call a ‘Final Solution’ for Kashmir,” he told the 15-member Council.
On Wednesday, the United States vetoed a Russian-led Security Council resolution that would have called for “humanitarian pauses” to deliver life-saving aid to millions of traumatized Gazans living under the relentless Israeli bombing.
Speaking in a debate, Ambassador Akram said he hopes that after the Security Council’s failure, the General Assembly will take action and demand an immediate ceasefire; full, unhindered, and sustainable humanitarian access to suffering people in Gaza; and ensure that they are not displaced within or outside Gaza.
“Thereafter,” he added, “We should seek to resuscitate the two-State solution, the only option for a durable peace in the Holy Land.”
In his remarks, Ambassador Akram said the Security Council’s failures could be addressed by making it more representative of the UN’s membership; more democratic, by enlarging the voice of the majority of small and medium sized States, and more accountable, through the democratic method of periodic elections
The Pakistani envoy said regional and sub-regional organizations can play a role in promoting peace and security and resolving disputes. However, their role remains subsidiary to that of the Security Council, the General Assembly, the Secretary-General and other relevant UN organs. Moreover, their actions must remain consistent with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and UN resolutions.
The bloodshed began on October 7 when Palestinian group Hamas launched an attack in Israel in the deadliest attack on Israeli soil since the state was founded in 1948.
Israel hit back with a relentless bombing campaign, killing more than 4,300 Palestinians, mainly civilians according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry.

ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed on Friday resurfaced after a month-long disappearance and condemned the May 9 riots while calling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan a ‘stubborn’, ARY News reported.
Talking to a private news channel, the former interior minister said that he had been on a ‘Chilla’ (apparently spending time underground) for the last 40 days.
Sheikh Rasheed – an ally of PTI chief Imran Khan – said that he had the opportunity to reflect on many things during the chilla in this age. “No one caused any harm during this period”, he added.
The AML president further said that he always stood by Pakistan Army, noting that he had also suggested PTI chief that “one should keep good terms with the army”. “I am proud to call myself the spokesperson of Pakistan Army”, Rasheed insisted.
He further said that no politician should take the names of any Pakistan army officer, adding that all the three people who were holding talks with the army for the PTI chief had made their own party.
The former federal minister said that he requested Imran Khan to include him in the committee – which was holding talks with army – but the latter refused, adding that the politicians and the institutions should work together.
Talking about the May 9 riots, Rasheed said that he was outside the country during the incidents of violence that followed Imran Khan’s arrest. He added that he had suggested to the PTI that they should not engage in a dispute with the establishment.
Calling PTI Chief Imran Khan “a stubborn politician”, Sheikh Rasheed said that messing with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir was their mistake.
Rasheed added that he had already condemned the May 9 riots, saying that the incidents of violence should be condemned in every Friday sermons.
He said that followers of the PTI chairman believe that they have supporters inside the army. “I had told Imran Khan that they would betray us and we should mind our own business,” he added.
“No doubt the events of May 9, including the attack on Core Commander House Lahore, were planned”, Sheikh Rasheed said. However, he sought ‘forgiveness’ for the people ‘who committed this mistake”.
Responding to a question, Sheikh Rasheed said that Twitter drowned him, adding that he was shown the Tweets. He added that he didn’t run the account on the microblogging site but all of the statements were his own.
Rasheed resurfaced a day after the Lahore High Court (LHC) gave the police a deadline till October 26 to recover the senior politician.
He was arrested from Rawalpindi on September 17, his counsel Sardar Abdul Razaq revealed on the same day.

Pakistan suffered its second consecutive defeat in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they were beaten by five-time winners Australia at Bangalore M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday and captain Babar Azam has revealed the reason for the defeat.
Pakistan won the toss and put Australia into bat under batting-friendly conditions. The decision came back to haunt him as openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh went all guns blazing to put on a record 259-run stand.
They bested former cricketers Shane Watson and Brad Haddin’s 183-run stand against Canada in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
David Warner, who scored his fourth consecutive century against Pakistan, top scored with 163 off 124 balls with 14 boundaries and nine sixes to his name. Mitchell Marsh, on the other hand, struck 10 fours and nine maximums on his way to 108-ball 121.
Thanks to blistering their blistering batting display and poor fielding by Pakistan, the side finished at 367-9 in their 50 overs.
In response, Pakistan’s Abdullah Shafique (64) and Imam-ul-Haq (70) laid the platform for the chase with a 134-run opening partnership but the rest of the top order failed to build on promising starts as they were bundled out for 305.
Spinner Adam Zampa was the pick of the Australia bowlers as he cleaned up the middle order to finish with figures of 4-53 to move Australia up to fourth — level with fifth-placed Pakistan on four points but with a better net run rate.
Babar Azam, in the post-match presentation, blamed the side’s fielding woes for the defeat. He admitted that dropping David Warner twice and dismal bowling performance were mistakes on their behalf.
“The first 34 overs in the bowling and fielding cost us,” Babar Azam said. “We dropped [David] Warner and such batters don’t spare you. This is a big-scoring ground and we missed our mark.”
Pakistan’s fielding was all over the place as newcomer Usama Mir dropped opener batter David Waner off pacer Shaheen Afridi’s bowling in the first over of the match. The opening batter survived again as he was dropped for the second time in the 33rd over, this time by Abdullah Shafique.
Then, Pakistan captain Babar Azam joined the side’s drop catch club as he put down Steve Smith in the 35th over.
Pakistan will now take on Afghanistan at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium on October 23rd (Monday).
