PTI have to show seriousness for dialogue: Musadik Malik

PTI, Musadik Malik

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister Musadik Malik on Sunday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) must demonstrate a genuine willingness to engage seriously before the government considers further talks.

Speaking to a private news channel, he stressed that PTI needs to adopt democratic norms if they are serious about political dialogue.

He noted that while the government has extended numerous invitations for dialogue, the responsibility now lies with PTI to show a real commitment to the process.

Musadik Malik highlighted that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) had initiated dialogues and consultations with the opposition multiple times, but these efforts were repeatedly rejected by PTI.

Shahbaz Sharif, the then opposition leader, reiterated the need for a Charter of Economy to stabilize Pakistan’s economy.

When asked about the Jamaat-e-Islami sit-in, he said that the government was trying to engage with them as their protest was conducted within the democratic framework.

Minster said that the government was committed to serve the people alongside its allies and will complete the constitutional term.

Regarding the potential ban on PTI, he noted that the constitution provides clear guidelines on issues such as embezzlement, treason, and foreign funding, and the law will take its course if charges were proven.

‘I left when May 9 protestors targeted Corps Commander House’

left for home, May 9 protestors, targeted, Corps Commander house

ISLAMABAD: Former Federal Minister on Monday shared his perspective over arson and riots at the Corps Commander House on May 9, stating that when the mob decided to go at the Corps Commander’s House, he went back home, ARY News reported.

During an appearance on ARY News program ‘Off the Record’, the Former Federal Minister – Shafqat Mehmood – recounted the events of May 9, explaining that after the arrest of the PTI founder, he joined the protestors at Liberty Chowk.

“When the angry mob asked me to join the protestors outside the Corps Commander’s House, I returned home because I knew that this was not the right way,” he said.

He emphasized that aggressive voices are often more influential within PTI. “There were two different thoughts in the party,” he explained.

“One thought was to engage in opposition, believing the people were with us, while the other was more aggressive, advocating for a front-foot approach.”

Mehmood reflected on the party’s internal politics, stating, “70 percent of politics takes place inside the party and 30 percent outside. The party dynamics have changed, and those who left after May 9 had no idea what would happen to them.”

He also discussed his personal decision to leave politics, despite his respect for the PTI founder. “I wanted to leave politics for a long time and focus on some other work,” he said.

Addressing the dissolution of assemblies, Mehmood remarked, “The thought behind dissolving the assemblies was that elections would be held again. However, the whole world saw that the constitution was not obeyed, and elections were not held within 90 days.”

PM Shehbaz Israel's attack

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif strongly denounced the brutal attack by Israeli forces on Khan Younis in Gaza, calling it an act of inhumanity, especially in light of the recent refugee evacuation.

In a statement released by the PM Office, the prime minister called the violent assault on Gaza’s Khan Younis neighborhood, which occurred soon after the unarmed Palestinian refugees were told to leave, a mockery of humanity.

The prime minister said that it had become clear that the Israeli forces had been pursuing a genocidal agenda against Palestinians, noting that unarmed Palestinians had been denied the opportunity to evacuate.

PM Shehbaz emphasised that the Pakistani nation stands in solidarity with its Palestinian brothers and sisters. He called upon the United Nations to fulfill its responsibility in addressing the issue of Palestine.

Governor Kundi raises alarming concerns over law and order in KP

Governor Kundi, KP

MANSEHRA: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday raised serious concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the province, criticising the provincial government for failing to meet its constitutional responsibilities.

Addressing a press conference in Mansehra, Governor Kundi emphasised that despite the ongoing severe lawlessness, the federal government respects the mandate given by the public to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to govern the province, and rejects any notion of imposing governor rule.

He highlighted that since the 18th Amendment was approved in 2011, maintaining law and order has been the responsibility of the provincial government. Kundi lamented that even after the Bannu incident, the provincial government has not lived up to public expectations, failing to convene an in-camera session of the provincial assembly.

The Governor called for an urgent in-camera session of the assembly and cabinet to brief the members and ministers on the worsening law and order situation, noting the martyrdom of armed forces personnel and the kidnapping of judges in the southern districts.

Faisal Karim Kundi revealed that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had served him with a defamation notice for 500 million rupees. However, Kundi advised Gandapur to first address the issue of corruption in job appointments and transfers, accusing him of setting rates for these transactions and making appointments based on bribes.

Addressing the possibility of an alliance between PTI and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government, Governor Kundi expressed skepticism. He argued that such an alliance was almost impossible as Maulana Fazlur Rehman was seeking retribution, having labeled Imran Khan’s party as foreign agents.

In a separate address at a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers’ convention, Governor Kundi announced the reorganisation of his party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He also criticised the provincial government for failing to appoint full-time vice-chancellors in 26 out of 36 universities of the province, highlighting another area of governance that needs urgent attention.

LHC to hear PTI founder’s plea against physical remand in May 9 cases

Imran Khan, physical remand, May 9

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has fixed July 22 for the hearing PTI founder Imran Khan’s petitions challenging his 10-day physical remand granted over his alleged involvement in May 9 violence, ARY News reported on Saturday.

The hearing scheduled for Monday will be presided over by a two-member bench comprising Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh and Justice Anwarul Haq.

The petition argued that the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore did not properly examine the record while granting physical remand.

The counsel further stated that Imran Khan was already in jail and police had previously investigated him. The petitions contend that the law was not considered while granting physical remand and request the high court to declare the physical remand order null and void.

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) sent PTI founder Imran Khan on a 10-day physical remand in 12 cases pertaining to riots on May 9.

Imran Khan was produced through a video link as the prosecutor cited ‘security concerns’ for not producing him in person.

“Why can’t you produce the accused in person before the court?,” the judge, Khalid Arshad asked. The prosecutor replied that the PTI founder cannot be presented in court for security reasons.

The prosecutor said that they wanted to investigate the PTI founder regarding the footage they found of the May 9 incidents.

The prosecutor said that the Imran Khan would not be taken away from the Adiala Jail and be investigated there.

On the other hand, the defence counsel opposed the plea, maintaining that the physical remand cannot be granted if an accused is presented via video link.

PM Shehbaz Sharif wishes President Biden prompt recovery from Covid

PM Shehbaz Sharif wishes President Biden prompt recovery from Covid

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday extended good wishes to US President Joe Biden for his “swift and complete” recovery after he tested positive for COVID-19.

“Wishing President Biden swift and complete recovery from COVID. Good wishes,” the prime minister wrote on his X timeline.

President Biden’s Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, in a statement, said that the president tested positive for COVID-19 following his first event in Las Vegas, where he was scheduled to address a crucial electioneering event ahead of the presidential poll due in November.

The president, who is vaccinated and boosted, is experiencing mild symptoms. He will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time, the press secretary added.

“His symptoms remain mild, his respiratory rate is normal at 16, his temperature is normal at 97.8 and his pulse oximetry is normal at 97%. The President has received his first dose of Paxlovid. He will be self-isolating at his home in Rehoboth,” according to a note by President Biden’s doctor issued by the White House.

The infection comes at a critical moment for Biden’s campaign, with the president seeking to show he is up to the job after a disastrous debate performance against rival Donald Trump sparked concerns about his health and calls from some Democrats for him to step aside.

It is also the latest development in a tumultuous few days in an already frenetic White House race that saw Trump survive an assassination attempt at a campaign rally.

Biden was forced to cancel a speech to a union representing Latino workers who will be crucial for his election bid, having attended a campaign event earlier in the day and given a radio interview.

His spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden was vaccinated and boosted, was now taking the Covid medication Paxlovid and “continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.”
