143-tola gold, cash looted from Peshawar house

PESHAWAR: In a daring robbery in Peshawar, masked robbers dressed in police uniforms made off with 143 tolas of gold and Rs1 million in cash from a house.

As per details, robbers disguised as policemen barged Muhammad Malik Tahir’s house in Canal Town, Peshawar and looted gold and cash.

According to Tahir, despite 10 days having passed since the incident, the police have yet to file an FIR. He also alleged that the Tehkal police recorded the case in the daily logbook but took no further action.

The police, however, stated that the incident has been noted in the daily report and investigations are underway. They assured that the FIR will be registered shortly.

In a similar incident, 70 tola gold worth over Rs8 million was looted during a house robbery within the jurisdiction of Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal police station.

According to the police, four armed men forced their way into a house in the Gulshan-e-Jamal neighborhood as a member of the household opened the door to leave for work.

A Karachi police official said the robbers looted 70 tolas of gold worth more than Rs8 million before getting away.

In Jan 2022, 28 pieces of tola gold jewelry were stolen from the house of a deputy inspector general (DIG) of the motorway police.

AB de Villiers responds to Babar Azam’s resignation as Pakistan captain

Former South Africa captain and legendary batsman AB de Villiers responded to Babar Azam’s decision to step down as Pakistan men’s cricket team’s white-ball captain.

The former South African batter took to X (formerly Twiiter) and backed Babar Azam’s decision.  AB de Villiers hoped that Babar Azam would score more runs after relinquishing the leadership responsibility.

“Congrats. You’ve been great. Now for plenty more runs for your team,” AB de Villiers posted.

A day earlier, the star batter took to Instagram to announce that he was relinquishing the Pakistan team’s captaincy to focus on his personal growth and contribute to the team as a player.

“Dear Fans, I’m sharing some news with you today. I have decided to resign as captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, effective as of my notification to the PCB and Team Management last month,” Babar Azam wrote in his statement.

While calling his role as the Pakistan captain a rewarding experience, the former all-format captain maintained that the responsibility added a significant workload.

“By stepping down, I will gain clarity moving forward and focus more energy on my game and personal growth,” Babar Azam announced.

“I’m grateful for your unwavering support and belief in me. Your enthusiasm has meant the world to me. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together and excited to continue contributing to the team as a player. Thank you for your love and support.”

Meanwhile, sources said that wicketkeeping batter Mohammad Rizwan is a ‘strong candidate’ to lead the national cricket team after the resignation of Babar Azam.

According to the sources, relevant Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials have been asked to hold consultations with Mohammad Rizwan for team selection.

The sources said that Babar was asked to continue captaining the ODI team, as white-ball coach Gary Kirsten wanted him at the top.

Malaysian PM arrives in Pakistan for three-day visit to bolster ties

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday received Malaysian Premier Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is undertaking a three-day official visit to Pakistan.

Upon his arrival at the airport, children clad in traditional attire presented bouquets to the Malaysian Premier. He was also given a static guard of honour while 21-gun boomed in the background as a gesture of warm welcome.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and members of the federal cabinet were also present to welcome the visiting dignitary.

The Malaysian prime minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation. During his stay, he will hold meetings with the leadership of Pakistan.

PM Anwar Ibrahim is undertaking the official visit at the invitation of PM Shehbaz Sharif.

The two sides will discuss a wide-ranging agenda to further strengthen Pakistan-Malaysia ties in diverse fields including trade, connectivity, energy, agriculture, halal industry, tourism, cultural exchanges and people-to-people contacts.

They will also discuss regional and global developments.

“Pakistan and Malaysia enjoy strong bilateral ties anchored in history, culture and faith. This visit provides an important opportunity to further strengthen Pakistan-Malaysia relations,” the Foreign Office said in an earlier press release.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator  Ishaq Dar on welcomed Foreign Minister of Malaysia Dato Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan on his arrival at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

They discussed areas of bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia and preparations for the visit of Malaysian Prime Minister to Pakistan.

England cricket team lands in Pakistan to play Test series

MULTAN: The England cricket team has arrived in Pakistan to play a Test series against Shan eleven, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

Led by all-rounder Ben Stokes, the team landed at Multan International Airport. The visiting team will rest for two days on October 2 and 3 before beginning practice session on October 4.

The first Test match between Pakistan and England will take place at the Multan Cricket Stadium, starting on October 7.

The second Test is also scheduled to be held in Multan on October 15, while the third and final Test will be played in Rawalpindi, starting on October 24.

The tickets for the first test match are already on sale by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

PIA halts utilizing Iranian airspace following Iran-Israel missile attacks

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily halted all flights using Iranian airspace after Iran’s missile attacks on Israel, as per official orders, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The airline’s spokesperson confirmed that flight plans are being rescheduled, and Iran’s airspace will not be utilized until the situation stabilizes.

PIA uses two air corridors through Iran: the Northern Corridor for routes to Canada and Turkey, and the Southern Corridor for flights to the UAE, Bahrain, Doha, and Saudi Arabia.

In response to the escalating conflict, Israel and Jordan have also closed their airspace to civilian flights.

Several international airlines have suspended flights to Israel and Lebanon amid growing concerns over the war.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued new directives to Pakistan Air Traffic Control (ATC) to tighten surveillance of its airspace.

According to sources, ATC has been instructed to closely monitor all flights entering Pakistan from Iran, Afghanistan airspaces.

The CAA has called for strict scrutiny of any aircraft approaching Pakistan’s airspace, emphasizing heightened vigilance due to the evolving geopolitical situation.

The move comes as Pakistan takes steps to safeguard its airspace and maintain regional security during ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel.

FIA arrest five ‘beggars’ from Saudi Arabia-bound flight

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration arrested eight individuals involved in traveling with fake documents and begging abroad during two separate operations at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

The passengers, identified as Noori Anwar, Asia Bibi, Samina Bibi, Sakina Bibi, and Muhammad Akram, were attempting to travel to Saudi Arabia on Pakistani passports via flights QR-611 and XY-638 for begging.

During immigration clearance, authorities found the passengers’ documents suspicious and upon investigation, it was revealed that the accused were planning to beg in Saudi Arabia.

They were unable to provide valid hotel bookings or justify their travel expenses.

All five professional beggars were arrested and handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Karachi for further legal proceedings.

In another operation, three passengers, Salman, Muhammad Nauman, and Muhammad Hussain, were arrested while attempting to travel to Azerbaijan on forged documents.

Muhammad Hussain was found carrying a fake German visa – by paying Rs. 800,000 – on his mobile phone.

The accused admitted to arranging their fraudulent study visas through an agent named Asim from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), meanwhile, Salman and Nauman paid Rs. 300,000 each.

The arrested individuals are now in custody at the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Karachi, and further investigations are ongoing.
