Two terrorists killed in gunfight with CTD

PESHAWAR: Two terrorists have been killed in a gunfight with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officials in the Mardan region, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The CTD spokesperson said that an arrested terrorist was taken to Swabi for seizing the cache of arms in the area. The CTD team was attacked by a group of terrorists in the area.

During the exchange of fire, two terrorists including the arrested one were killed. The spokesperson said that arms and explosive material were recovered from the killed terrorist.

Yesterday, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested nine most wanted terrorists including two Daish commanders during intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Punjab cities.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted IBOs in different Punjab cities and arrested nine most wanted terrorists including two Daish commanders.

According to the CTD spokesperson, 157 IBOs were conducted in Punjab cities including Faisalabad, Nankana Sahib, Rahim Yar Khan, Sheikhupura, Rawalpindi and a border village of Lahore from where the Daish commanders were arrested.

Moreover, explosive material, 12 detonators, arms and cash were recovered from the arrested terrorists’ possession.

The CTD spokesperson said that the terrorists were planning to carry out attacks on sensitive installations.

ECP orders to present PTI chief in contempt case

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered to present Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief in contempt case, ARY News reported.

According to details, the ECP bench issued production orders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, for indictment in the same case on October 24.

Meanwhile, a five-member bench headed by the Chief Election Commissioner will hear a petition seeking removal of Imran Khan as PTI chairman following his conviction in the Toshakhana case, on October 26.

Earlier today, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a bailable arrest warrant for former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in the same case.

The ECP also ordered to present the senior politician before the commission on October 24 at 10 a.m. and directed the IG Islamabad to ensure the implementation of ECP’s order.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) deferred the indictment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in a contempt case filed against him.

The electoral watchdog had reserved its verdict in a contempt case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and others, the announcement of verdict was scheduled on June 20.

In August 2022, the ECP issued notices to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and others for allegedly using “intemperate” language against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja and the electoral watchdog.

The political leaders repeatedly lambasted the commission and CEC Sikandar Raja and termed the electoral body a “subsidiary of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz”.

Passengers stuck inside PIA plane due to jet bridge issue

Karachi: Passengers stuck inside Pakistan International Airline (PIA) plane due to jet bride issue, ARY News reported citing sources.

According to sources, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials were unable to fix the jet bridge on the plane gate.

The passenger had to wait for the jet bridge to exit the plane whereas the ACs were also turned because of non-availability of ground power unit.

The CAA spokesperson clarified that the the connection of Jet bridge was delayed as the plane was parked at the wrong place by the captain.

Earlier, it was reported that the flight operations of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) were badly affected by limited fuel supply from the Pakistan State Oil (PSO).

According to official spokesperson, a total of 24 Pakistan International Airlines flights including 16 international and 8 domestic scheduled on October 18 have been suspended due to limited fuel supply from PSO.

The PIA spokesperson stated that 24 flights were suspended today amid no fuel supply, while the passengers of the suspended flights have been adjusted to other flights.

It is pertinent to mention that Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar directed authorities concerned to expedite the privatization process of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other loss-making state-owned enterprises.

CEC Raja vows to utilise all resources for transparent, peaceful election

QUETTA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja on Wednesday stressed the importance of utilising all available resources to conduct a transparent and peaceful general election in Pakistan, ARY News reported.

Chairing a meeting at the Civil Secretariat Quetta to assess the preparations for the upcoming general elections, Sikandar Raja emphasised the importance of close collaboration between the caretaker government and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

He cautioned that stringent measures will be taken against officials and staff members who demonstrate negligence in the election process. Furthermore, he emphasised that ensuring free, fair, and impartial elections is pivotal for enhancing democracy.

He stated that the Election Commission is fully committed to assisting the Interim provincial government to the best of its abilities.

Additionally, the CEC Raja emphasised a strict stance against any instances of political bias among government employees, ensuring swift action will be taken upon the identification of such complaints.

The Election Commission is dedicated to offering any necessary support to the Interim provincial government. CEC Raja also stressed that any instances of political favouritism among government employees will be met with zero tolerance, and swift action will be taken if such complaints are identified.

During the meeting, the Secretary of the Election Commission delivered a concise presentation on the preparations for the upcoming general elections. This included updates on the progress of the electoral roll and voter registration.

During the meeting, Sharifullah, the Provincial Election Commissioner of Balochistan, provided an overview of the preparations for the general elections and discussed the future steps. He also noted that over 5.28 million registered voters are expected to exercise their voting rights in Balochistan.

He explained that the upcoming elections will encompass 16 National Assembly and 51 Provincial Assembly seats in Balochistan, with 5,067 polling stations to be established. Of these, 2,038 polling stations are designated as highly sensitive, while 2,068 are categorized as sensitive.

The Chief Election Commissioner instructed the Provincial Election Commissioner to promptly inspect all polling stations in the province. Additionally, the Chief Secretary provided a comprehensive overview of election preparations and compliance with the Election Commission’s directives, pledging to execute all orders accordingly.

The Chief Secretary affirmed that the Balochistan government is fully committed to supporting the Election Commission in the successful conduct of the general elections. Furthermore, he noted that the provincial government is carrying out personnel transfers and postings in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission.

He additionally assured that polling stations will be adequately equipped with all necessary facilities. During the meeting, the Inspector General of Police in Balochistan mentioned that a security plan has been devised, and the Quick Response Force will maintain a high level of vigilance to address any unexpected incidents, leaving no stone unturned to ensure a peaceful election.

During the event, the Additional Inspector General of Police provided an extensive security briefing and mentioned the establishment of a centralized control room to ensure the peaceful conduct of the election.

Another young man shot dead for ‘resisting robbery’ in Karachi

KARACHI: Another young man was gunned down by armed robbers over resistance in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar, ARY News reported on Wednesday, quoting the police. 

According to a spokesperson for the police, the unfortunate turn of events unfolded when two armed suspects on a motorcycle intercepted the young man – identified as Muhammad Saad – near Johar Mor.

As soon as he offered some resistance one of them shot him and rode away, the police said. The body was shifted to hospital to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

The police noted that the investigation team did not find the mobile phone on the spot. “The team is trying to identify the accused from the cameras installed near the spot,” they added.

Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has taken notice of the incident and directed Additional Inspector-General (AIG) to investigate the death from all angles.

During the current year, the number of people killed in robbery attempts in Karachi has reached 108.

In September, an elderly woman aged 65 years was killed by dacoits over resistance in Karachi’s Orangi Town area.

Police told the media that the dacoits killed a 65-year-old woman namely Kishwar inside her house over resistance. The police officials stormed a house and looted Rs3.5 million.

The deceased woman had recently sold an embroidery machine for Rs3.5 million. Police said the dacoits robbed cash and all expensive items from the house and fled from the scene.

NA speaker dismissed no-trust move on PTI chief directives: Azam Khan

ISLAMABAD: Former principal secretary Azam Khan said that National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri dismissed the no-trust move on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief directives, ARY News reported.

As per details, prime witness in Cypher case Azam Khan said in his written statement that the PTI chief Imran Khan made a targeted plan against Pakistan army.

Azam Khan said that he received a phone call on March 8 and was informed about the transfer of cypher to the prime minister house.

Cypher was handed over to the then prime minister and PTI chairman on March 9 however former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had already informed Imran Khan about the cypher, he added.

He revealed that PTI chief Imran Khan had directed to form a narrative on cypher against the state institutions.

Cipher case: PTI chief, Qureshi’s indictment deferred

Earlier, a special court formed under the official secrets act deferred indictment of the former prime minister and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a cipher case.

Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain heard the case in Adiala Jail under the Official Secrets Act 2023 in the presence of senior prosecutor, Shah Khawar, PTI Chairman and former foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

It is pertinent to mention here that Azam Khan, ex-principal secretary to the PTI chairman and former prime minister made startling revelations and claimed that the former PM used US cypher for his ‘political gains’ and to avert a no-confidence motion against him.

Azam Khan, who had earlier been “missing” since last month, suddenly appeared before the scene and made startling revelations about US cypher, while recording his statement under the CrPC 164 before a magistrate.

Cipher case

The first information report (FIR) was registered on August 15 under the Official Secrets Act. It was registered on the complaint of the Home Secretary.

Former prime minister Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were nominated in the report, while names of former principal secretary Azam Khan and former planning minister Asad Umar were also mentioned.

According to the report, action also will be taken against Azam Khan and Asad Umar after the authorities reached the conclusion that they were also involved in misusing the classified documents.

The FIR stated that the former prime minister and foreign minister distorted the facts of the diplomatic cipher. “A conspiracy was launched to misuse the contents of the cipher to fulfill nefarious purposes”, it added. It further stated that former premier and top diplomat endangered the state interests.

The report claimed that former prime minister asked Azam Khan – the then principal secretary – to “manipulate the contents of cipher”. “The former premier deliberately kept the copy of diplomatic cipher, which was sent to the PM office”, it added.

Sindh to crack down on high-profile land grabbers

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday decided to launch a crackdown against high-profile land grabbers across the province, ARY News reported, quoting the spokesman Anti-Encroachment Force.

The decision was taken during an emergency meeting held under the chairmanship of Director Anti-Encroachment Force Raja Tariq Chandio. DSP Operations Tariq Islam, AD Abdul Wahid Billu, and others attended the meeting.

During the meeting, it was decided to launch a crackdown against high-profile land grabbers on the issue of grabbing government lands worth billions of rupees across Sindh.

Meanwhile, a special task force has also been constituted to reclaim the government and private land.

The Anti-Encroachment Force said that cases have been registered against 480 land grabbers across Sindh. A total of 473 land grabbers have been booked in Karachi and 99 percent of the land grabs have been taken by the mafia.

On the occasion, Raja Tariq Chandio expressed concern over the current situation and added that a special task force will launch a crackdown soon. He said SHOs have been instructed to speed up the process to arrest the absconding accused.
