Poliovirus reported in two environmental samples

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Health has confirmed poliovirus in environmental samples of Quetta district, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

According to the Ministry of Health spokesperson, the poliovirus was found in two samples of sewage water from Quetta.

He said that the surveillance system of the polio program is very strong. The spokesperson said that the government is ensuring effective measures to eradicate polio. He said an integrated strategy has been formulated in high-risk areas of polio.

He said that parents must give their children a polio vaccine during every polio immunization campaign.

Earlier in the month, the poliovirus was found in two samples of sewage water from Quetta. The poliovirus was also found in one sample each from Karachi Malir, Peshawar, Hub and Tank.

Earlier, Caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwaarul Haq Kakar directed the formulation of an emergency polio eradication plan and the launch of integrated programmes in Pakistan’s high-risk union councils.

The prime minister emphasised monitoring of polio vaccination campaigns by using modern technology.

Expressing the recent report of police cases, PM Kakar regretted that the crippling disease, which was eradicated from the globe, still existed in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Ex-NA speaker Fahmida Mirza injured in Karachi road accident

KARACHI: Former speaker National Assembly Dr Fahmida Mirza got injured in a road accident occurred in Karachi, ARY News reported. 

According to police officials, two vehicles collided in Karachi and as a result the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) leader sustained injuries.

Furthermore, the police spokesperson said that the former speaker has been shifted to a private hospital in Karachi’s Defence.

Fahmida Mirza, who previously served as the Speaker of the National Assembly during the previous government of the Pakistan Peoples Party, was the first and only woman to have held the position.

PECA act enforced to prevent issuance of illegal passports, data theft

ISLAMABAD: The caretaker government has enforced Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PICA) to prevent the issuance of illegal passports and data theft, ARY News reported. 

As per details, the PECA was imposed to permanently block the issuance of illegal passports to Afghans and other foreigners.

The federal government has also declared six Directorate of Passport sections extremely sensitive and entry in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad was banned except for certain officers.

Moreover, the cabinet approved the Interior Ministry summary through a circular. The enforcement of PECA Act will prevent theft of sensitive data and other details of citizens.

Earlier, the Ministry of Interior directed to initiate the legal proceedings against the Afghan nationals who were caught in Saudi Arabia for possessing fake Pakistani passports and identity cards.

According to the Federal Investigation Bureau (FIA) sources, in light of Ministry of Interior directives, the relevant authorities decided to issue the notice under section 18 of the NADRA ordinance to 12,500 Afghan nationals.

Sources within the FIA revealed that the fake Pakistani identity cards to the 593 Afghan nationals were issued from Islamabad, while a total of 5,500 Pakistani identity cards were issued from Quetta and Peshawar.

Gas cylinder blast at sweet shop injures three in Karachi

KARACHI: Three persons including a security guard were injured in a gas cylinder blast at a sweet shop in Karachi’s Bahadurabad area on Sunday, ARY News reported.

Rescue officials said that three persons sustained injuries in a gas cylinder blast at a sweet shop in the Bahadurabad area.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and started rescue activities.

In October, two people were injured when a gas cylinder exploded in a shop located at Karachi’s Maskan Chowrangi.

According to the police, two cylinders exploded inside a fast-food shop, which was closed. Due to the intensity of the blast, two passersby were injured.

Several vehicles and motorcycles were also damaged in the blast. The injured were moved to the nearest hospital, the police said.

Three people including the shop owner were arrested by the police and shifted to the police station for legal action.

Four of family dead in Lahore car firing

LAHORE: At least four members of a family killed as a man opened fire on his ex-wife and her family in Salamatpura Lahore, ARY News reported.

As per details, the police officials said the alleged suspect, identified as Salman, opened fire on his ex-wife and her family when they returned from a wedding event.

According to police spokesperson, the firing resulted in the death of his ex-wife, her father, sister and brother whereas 55-year-old woman Taj Bibi and five-year-old Minahil sustained injuries.

Earlier, at least five members of a family were gunned down over a domestic dispute in Dera Ismail Khan.

As per details, a man from Rehmani Khel area of DI Khan killed his wife for unknown reasons.

In a fit of rage, the brothers of the deceased woman opened fire on the man’s father, mother and sister who died on the spot.

On August 21, a man allegedly shot his wife to death over a domestic dispute in Baldia Town of Karachi.

The incident took place in Baldia town, wherein a man – Noorullah, a resident of Charsadda – allegedly shot his wife to death over a domestic dispute.

In a statement, Superintendent of Police (SP) Baldia said that the deceased woman had gone to her parent’s house in Baldia Town two months ago after a quarrel with her husband.

Karachi: 8-month-old baby dies after being hit by vehicle

KARACHI: An eight-month-old baby on Saturday died after being hit by a vehicle while playing outside the house, located in Karachi’s Landhi area, ARY News reported.

In a statement, the police said the vehicle’s driver shifted the eight-month-old baby – identified as Wali Muhammad – to the hospital and fled away.

Giving details of the incident, the police said the eight-month-old baby was playing outside his residence in Landhi No.1 along with his maternal grandmother.

“The infant got off her grandmother’s lap and came on the street while trying to walk,” they said. Unfortunately, the police said, a vehicle passing through the street ran over the eight-month-old.

The vehicle’s driver – identified as Owais – shifted the infant to hospital and fled, the police added.

Bus passenger robbed of Rs230m in Rajanpur

RAJANPUR: In a shocking incident, a bus passenger was kidnapped and robbed of Rs 230 million in Fazilpur, Rajanpur, ARY News reported.

As per details, a bus passenger identified as Faisal Noor Muhammad was kidnapped and robbed of a staggering Rs 230 million in Fazilpur, Rajanpur.

Faisal, who works in the real estate sector, was traveling on a bus bound for Dera Ghazi Khan from Karachi when over 10 individuals posing as police personnel kidnapped him.

The bus passenger was taking a substantial sum of money to deliver it to his business partners when he was kidnapped by two individuals claiming to be police officers.

Police officials stated that some of the stolen amount has been recovered, and several suspects have been apprehended. However, the passenger, Faisal Noor Muhammad, still remains missing.

Earlier, in a shocking incident a Germany-returned citizen was robbed at his doorstep in Karachi.

As per details, the incident occurred in Buffer Zone 15A where a citizen was followed by armed assailants from the airport to his doorstep.

Police officials stated when the man reached his doorstep, his bag carrying euros, Rs 1.3 million cash, two mobile phones and a German national card was snatched at gunpoint.

Furthermore, police registered the FIR of the robbery in Karachi’s Taimoria police station.
