KARACHI: A distressing incident was reported from Karachi, where a man was shot dead by some unidentified individuals in North Nazimabad area, ARY News reported on Monday.
As per the police officials, the identification process of the diseased person in underway, while a letter from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has been found from the car of the victim, seeking permission for commercial shops, leading authorities to believe that the person might be in the real estate business.
SSP Zeeshan Shafiq stated that documents recovered from the victim suggest the incident might be linked to personal enmity.
The accused managed to flee the scene, and further investigations are underway. The body has been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital for a post-mortem examination.

ISLAMABAD: As part of the new process introduced through the 26th Constitutional Amendment, a special parliamentary committee has been formed to oversee the appointment of the next Chief Justice of Pakistan, ARY News reported on Monday.
The amendment to Article 175A proposes key changes to how judges are appointed, shifting more authority to a 12-member parliamentary committee – comprised of eight members from the National Assembly (NA) and four senators – to appoint the CJP, selecting from among the three most senior judges.
However, following the approval of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) nominated Senator Azam Nazir Tarar, while the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) named Senator Farooq Naek for the committee.
Senator Kamran Murtaza was nominated by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), and Senator Ali Zafar was put forward by the Sunni Ittehad Council.
Additionally, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) nominated Raja Pervez Ashraf and Syed Naveed Qamar from the National Assembly (NA), with Barrister Gohar and Sahibzada Hamid Raza nominated by the Sunni Ittehad Council.
The recently passed 26th Constitutional Amendment by the Senate and National Assembly, has sparked debate due to its perceived impact on judicial independence with many politicians and bar association criticized the amendment which gives the government greater influence over judicial appointments, particularly with the establishment of a commission that includes politicians alongside judges.
Previously, the Chief Justice of Pakistan and other judges were primarily appointed by the judiciary, with limited external input.
However, with the recent amendment, the political influence in the commission many fear this could undermine the equity of judicial appointments.
The formation of the special committee reflects the new process, which is seen by some as an attempt to balance power, while others believe that the ‘judiciary’s wings has been clipped’ by recent amendments in the constitution.

Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has said the passage of the 26th constitutional amendment is an excellent manifestation of national solidarity and consensus.
Speaking in the National Assembly today (Monday) after passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, he expressed the confidence this legislation will ensure easy and speedy justice to the common man. Describing it as a major milestone, he said this is the fulfillment of the unfinished agenda of Charter of Democracy signed by the political parties.
He was confident that this constitutional amendment will secure and strengthen the country’s future.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the political parties while rising above their personal interests and egos move forward in the best national interest.
The premier also thanked coalition partners and the JUI (F) for supporting the constitutional amendment.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sent an advice to President Asif Ali Zardari for assent of the 26th constitutional amendment after its passage by both houses of the parliament with a two third majority.
It is to be noted that Senate of Pakistan and the National Assembly passed the 26th Amendment with simple majority.

The federal government managed to secure two-third majority for the passage of the 26th constitutional amendment in the National Assembly (NA) in the wee hours of Monday, shortly after it sailed through Senate.
In the Senate, sixty five members voted in favour of the constitutional amendment and four against it, while in the National Assembly 225 members supported the amendment and 12 opposed.
The constitution amendment envisages introduction of reforms to the appointment process and tenure of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and establishment of constitutional benches at the Supreme Court, with equal representation from all provinces.
It also provides to establish constitutional benches at the high courts.
The senior-most judge of each constitutional bench will serve as its presiding officer.
Under the constitutional amendment, the term for the Chief Justice of Pakistan has been set at three years.
A 12-member parliamentary committee will nominate the new Chief Justice of Pakistan from a panel of the three most senior judges.
The committee, comprising eight members from the National Assembly and four from the Senate, will propose the name to the Prime Minister, who will then forward it to the President for final approval.
Besides, a Judicial Commission of Pakistan, led by the Chief Justice and including three senior judges, two members each from the National Assembly and Senate, the Federal Minister for Law and Justice, the Attorney General, and a nominee of the Pakistan Bar Council, having not less than fifteen years of practice in the Supreme Court, will be responsible for appointments of the judges of the Supreme Court.
The commission will also monitor judges’ performance and report any concerns to the Supreme Judicial Council.
The amendment also included provisions related to the Supreme Judicial Council’s composition, ensuring a diverse and robust judicial structure, with the council consisting of the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the two most senior judges of the Supreme Court and the two most senior Chief Justices of the High Courts.
One of the most significant components of the amendment is the complete eradication of Riba (interest) from the country by January 1, 2028.
The Senate will now meet at 4 pm, while the National Assembly at 5 pm tomorrow.

LAHORE: In a tragic incident, a 7-year-old child was shot dead by a security guard at a farmhouse in the Chohang area of Lahore, ARY News reported on Sunday.
The child, who had been playing cricket nearby, went to the farmhouse to drink water when the security guard, identified as Nazir, opened fire killing the child on spot.
According to the police, Nazir was apprehended while attempting to flee to Okara from a local bus stand, while the murder weapon was also recovered from the arrested guard.
The incident has been officially registered based on a complaint filed by the child’s father.
The FIR further states that a few days prior to the incident, Nazir had warned the child not to drink water from the farmhouse.
On the day of the incident, when the child returned to the farmhouse, Nazir fired at him, leading to his death.
The case also names two unidentified individuals in connection with the security guard’s actions, however, further investigations are underway to determine their involvement.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has said the draft of constitutional package will be presented before the federal cabinet today (Sunday) for formal approval.
Talking to media in Islamabad, along with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, he said proposals of JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman have been incorporated in the draft.
The Law Minister said he apprised the Federal Cabinet about the threadbare discussion on the constitutional amendment. He said the stance of the allied parties was also presented in the cabinet meeting.
Azam Nazeer Tarar said timelines have been proposed in the constitutional package regarding the appointment of judges and evaluation of their performance to make the process of accountability transparent and swift.
Later, talking to the media, Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan said the cabinet will meet at two thirty p.m. today. He said the Senate and the National Assembly will vote on the constitutional amendment following approval by the cabinet.
Rana Sanaullah Khan appreciated JUI (F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman for engaging with the PTI on the matter, describing it as a positive and democratic approach.
The JUI-F Chief, however, said that the PTI’s politics does not involve collaboration with others.

The National Assembly sitting that was started after hours-long delay lasted for a few minutes while the Senate session commenced after a delay of around three hours from its scheduled time amid the absence of the government’s some lawmakers.
‘Will wait for PTI’s response until Sunday’
Speaking to newsmen along with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari after their meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that they will wait for the PTI’s reply till Sunday before presenting the constitutional amendments in the parliament.
“The PTI leadership met their founder on Saturday and conveyed his message to me,” Maulana Fazlur Rehman said. He said that the PTI is expected to apprise about its decision on Sunday.
“We will wait until tomorrow and inform the nation about the situation that unfolds,” Maulana Fazlur Rehman said.
Fazlur Rehman will convince PTI, hopes Bilawal
Speaking on the occasion, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed confidence that Maulana Fazlur Rehman will convince the PTI to support the constitutional amendments.
Bilawal said the objections raised by PTI have been addressed and are no more part of the constitutional amendments.
He hoped that the agreed-upon draft will be presented in the assembly by Maulana Fazlur Rehman himself. Bilawal stressed the importance of consensus among all parties, stating that he desires constitutional amendments be passed through mutual agreement.
‘PTI will not vote on constitutional amendments’
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed concerns that two of its senators may vote in favor of constitutional amendments against the party’s policy.
In a statement issued here, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said that it was learnt that the party’s two senators Zarqa Taimur and Faisal Saleem would vote against the party policy.
“I think our two senators Zarqa Taimur and Faisal Salim are going to vote against the party policy,” Barrister Gohar Ali said.
Earlier addressing a presser in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that no progress could be made without Imran Khan’s ‘clear’ directives on the constitutional amendments.
He said that the party will not vote for the passage of the constitutional amendments, reiterated their thier commitment to following Imran Khan’s directives on constitutional amendment. The PTI chairman said that in a meeting with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, they made it clear that they will not be voting for the constitutional amendments until the clear directives from Imran Khan.
