CM Punjab Maryam angry over Nishtar Hospital HIV outbreak

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed her displeasure over the outbreak of HIV in Multan and sought a progress report within 24 hours.

While presiding over a special meeting on health, Maryam Nawaz said that the outbreak of  HIV among dialysis patients in Multan at is not only regrettable but also shameful as well.

“Halting dialysis procedure due to non-availability of funds is regrettable,” she said.

The chief minister also approved the ‘Chief Minister Dialysis Program Card’ in the history of Pakistan, the first of its nature in Pakistan.

Under the programme, the funds for the treatment of each dialysis patient have been increased up to Rs10 million whereas Rs8.5 million for dialysis and Rs1.5 million for tests are being allocated for each patient suffering from kidney disease.

She directed to ensure free tests and medicines for dialysis patients, while urging to continue dialysis procedure of patients under any circumstance. It was agreed in principle to establish more dialysis units in Punjab.

The chief minister directed Punjab Healthcare Commission to ensure implementation of SOPs in dialysis centres across the province.

It was agreed to set KPIs to determine performance of the health department. A progress report on the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital was presented.

A report on the ongoing projects of PIC-2 and Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology, Sargodha was presented.

She directed to make PIC-2 a state-of-the-art hospital and to ensure latest technology, equipment and medicine for cardiac patients.

It is pertinent to mention that a patient has died while 30 others contracted HIV/AIDs infections during dialysis treatment at the Nishtar Hospital, Multan, as the effected patients carried the virus from the dialysis machines meant for HIV positive cases.

Roshan Digital Account inflows rise to $8.953 bln in October 2024

The inflow of remittances under Roshan Digital Account (RDA) has risen to US $8.953 billion by the end of October 2024 as compared to US $8.749 billion by September (2024) end.

The data showed that the inflows of remittances during October were recorded at US$ 204 million as compared to US$ 168 million in September and US$ 165 million in August 2024, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

These accounts provide innovative banking solutions to millions of Non-Resident Pakistanis (NRPs), including Non-Resident Pakistan Origin Card (POC) holders, seeking to undertake banking, payment, and investment activities in Pakistan.

The number of accounts registered under the programme also rose by 11,336 to 757,587 in October 2024 from 746,251 accounts in September 2024.

By the end of October, overseas Pakistanis have invested US $393 million in Naya Pakistan Certificates, US $687 in Naya Pakistan Islamic Certificates, and US $45 million in Roshan Equity Investment.

The Roshan Digital Account was introduced by the State Bank to facilitate overseas Pakistanis in sending remittances and investing in Pakistan.

It is pertinent to mention here that in September 2020, former prime minister Imran Khan launched the Roshan Digital Account project aimed at providing digital banking facilities to overseas Pakistanis for the first time in the country.

Pakistan reports 50th polio case of 2024

ISLAMABAD: The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has reported another polio case in Pakistan, bringing the total number of cases in 2024 to 50, ARY News reported on Tuesday, citing sources.

According to NEOC sources, the National Reference Lab identified the latest case involving a 20-month-old girl from Tank district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Tests confirmed the presence of Wild Poliovirus Type 1 (WPV1). This is the second polio case reported from Tank this year, with a genetic link established to a case from July in the same district.

Province-wise, Balochistan remains the hardest hit, with 24 polio cases reported this year, followed by Sindh with 13, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 11, and Punjab and Islamabad each recording one case.

Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of polio vaccination campaigns to curb the spread of the virus, particularly in high-risk areas.

The recent rise in polio cases in Pakistan has sparked concerns for international organizations, sources said.

According to sources, the international organization has called on Pakistan to implement emergency measures.

Sources revealed that Pakistan has assured the international organizations of taking swift action to control polio. Furthermore, these organizations who work to combat the virus likely to visit Pakistan later this month.

Nov 24 will be loyalty test for PTI members: Bushra Bibi

PESHAWAR: Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, asked the party officials to devise tactics for preventing arrest during their protest on November 24, ARY News reported.

A purported audio recording of Bushra Bibi has emerged in which she can be heard directing PTI officials to devise strategy for the protest.

In the audio recorded at CM House, Bushra Bibi can be heard discussing strategies to avoid arrest, ensure loyalty for Imran, and counter the internet blockade.

“November 24 will be a loyalty test for PTI members,” she said in a purported audio.

Bushra Bibi directed the party officials to share videos with local and international media to counter the internet blockade.

“Those who do not have video won’t be given party tickets (to contest polls) in the future.

Earlier, addressing the Insaf Student Federation (ISF) and Youth Wing leaders, the former first lady said that urged them to mobilise young people for the announced protest on November 24

According to sources, during the meeting, Bushra Bibi conveyed Imran Khan’s message in which he expressed high hopes from the youth, as per the sources.

Separately, Bushra Bibi held separate meetings with some party officials. She also met with Gul Zafar, a leader from the Bajaur agency, and praised his contributions to the party on behalf of the PTI founder.

It is pertinent to note that the incarcerated Imran Khan announced the final date for a protest in Islamabad.

The PTI founder’s sister Aleema Khan broke the news in front of the media after holding a meeting with Imran Khan. Aleema Khan stated that her brother has decided on November 24 as the date for the final protest in the federal capital.

She claimed that the PTI’s mandate was stolen on February 9 and selected people were given the power who in return deprived people of their rights after the 26th amendment.

On November 9, KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur said that he would not return home until the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

Sharif family issues statement over Hasan Nawaz’s bankruptcy

The Sharif family issued a statement on the ruling of the High Court of Justice in London  over Hasan Nawaz’s company bankruptcy, ARY News reported. 

In a statement, a Sharif family spokesperson said that asserted that the process of bankruptcy for the Sharif family’s businesses began in 1972, during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s tenure when industries were nationalized.

The statement further pointed out that the former president of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf followed a similar path by ‘seizing’ personal homes and ‘shutting’ down factories of the Sharif family.

“Similarly, during the time of the former chief justice of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar, the Sharif family’s industries were deliberately ruined,” the spokesperson added.

The statement added that the Sharif family had to bear the losses of their private businesses on multiple occasions, with the businesses being declared bankrupt for a total of four times.

“Despite these financial setbacks, the family continued to stand for the country and its principles. The companies undergoing bankruptcy do not pay taxes, and the British court has rightly upheld Hasan Nawaz’s stance in the case.”

Earlier on November 17, Hasan Nawaz, the son of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, was declared ‘bankrupt’ by the High Court of Justice in London.

According to the official UK Gazette which is the official record-keeping journal of the United Kingdom, Hasan Nawaz was declared bankrupt in a tax case involving the UK’s Tax and Revenue Department.

The decision was issued under case number 694 of 2023. The London High Court’s ruling on Hasan Nawaz was officially released on April 29, 2024, while the case itself was filed on August 25, 2023.

The civil case was filed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) against Hasan Nawaz, with Kaur Maxwell acting as his legal representative.

Sources close to Hassan Nawaz revealed that his legal team is carefully reviewing the case and plans to file a response to the court’s decision soon.

IDEAS 2024 to kick off tomorrow in Karachi

KARACHI: The 12th edition of the International Defense Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024 is set to kick off tomorrow in Karachi, ARY News reported.

According to details, the Ministry of Defense and the Defense Export Promotion Organization (DEPO) are set to host IDEAS 2024 at the Karachi Expo Center from November 19 to 22.

The event aims to showcase Pakistan’s advanced and conventional defense capabilities while fostering international collaborations.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), the exhibition seeks to solidify Pakistan’s defense industry on the global stage.

The exhibition will feature a comprehensive display of cutting-edge defense equipment, including weaponry, tanks, fighter jets, helicopters, naval ships, submarines, and advanced drone systems.

In addition, innovations in missile technology, cyber defense, satellite systems, and electronic warfare will underline Pakistan’s growing technological prowess in defense production.

The Karachi police have also revealed a traffic plan for the people of Karachi ahead of IDEAS 2024.

The International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024 will kick off from November 19 to 22 at Karachi Expo Centre.

The Pakistan government attaches a high level of importance to IDEAS. The exhibition  attracts a large number of delegates and it is seen as a vehicle for facilitating their own indigenous arms trade.

The inaugural launch of IDEAS occurred in 2000 and was a vehicle to promote Pakistan’s domestic arms manufacturing businesses whilst providing a stage for international vendors to offer solutions to the requirements of the tri-services of Pakistan.

The event, having always been scheduled for the Karachi Expo Centre, in its first year attracted forty-five delegations from foreign countries.

Faisalabad: Domestic worker abducts employer’s 8-year-old daughter

A domestic worker abducted his employer’s eight-year-old daughter in Faisalabad’s Paharnang area, ARY News reported.

According to authorities, the suspect, identified as Hidayatullah, a resident of Kotli, reportedly lured the child, Zareesha, and fled on the bike of his owner.

Maqsood Ahmed, the father of the abducted girl reported that the child was playing outside the home when the worker took her away.

Police have registered a case based on Maqsood’s complaint and launched a search operation to recover the child and apprehend the suspect. The incident has caused distress in the neighborhood as efforts intensify to ensure the safe return of the girl.

On Sunday in Faisalabad, four arrested suspects in a gang-rape case were killed in police encounter in the area of ​​Nishatabad police station.

According to police, the killed accused Zahid, Naveed, Islam and Qasim were in police custody on remand in the robbery-rape case.

The police were taking the four robbers to Achkira village for recovery and meanwhile, accomplices of dacoits attacked the police party near Ghulam Muhammadabad number two.

Police said in the shootout, the outlaws killed four of their accomplices and fled the scene.
